Professor Xinfan Lin

Dr. Xinfan Lin is an Associate Professor with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Davis. He is also a faculty member with the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) at UC Davis. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2007 and 2009, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in May 2014.

Prior to joining UC Davis, he was a research engineer at the Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, Michigan, from August 2014 to December 2016. While at Ford, he was responsible for designing battery management system (BMS) for electric vehicles (EV) and developing EV sub-systems and components.

Research Interests:

  • Dynamic system modeling, estimation, and control;

  • Machine learning and data analytics;

  • Control-integrated design and optimization;

  • Battery management system;

  • Energy management of electric vehicles (EV) and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
